As avid golfers, Jack and Emilie Wilson were found on the golf course almost every day. Together, they were huge supporters of Huntington North High School athletics. They followed teams closely, offering their support and establishing close personal relationships that went beyond the matches and meets with many Viking athletes.
In a tragic turn of events, Emilie passed away in an accidental natural gas explosion at the Wilson household on North Jefferson St. on November 21, 2006. Jack survived the blast but was hospitalized for severe burns to a quarter of his body. In memory of Emilie, friends and family came together to start the 2 4 Golf Scholarship named after the license plate that the Wilson’s sported on their car.
The scholarship honors both the commitment and respect that Emilie had for the athletes of Huntington North and the joy and fulfillment that supporting Huntington North athletes brought for Jack and Emilie. For many years, Jack read through the pool of student athlete applications and made scholarship recommendations to the HCCF scholarship committee.
Since its establishment, the 2 4 Golf Scholarship has awarded 10 student athletes nearly $7,000 in financial aid. This year, we congratulate Alexandra Short for being the 2017 2 4 Golf Scholar!
