Community Foundation Announces 2024 Grant Cycle II Recipients

The Community Foundation of Huntington County recently awarded $49,862 in grants to several community nonprofits. Recipients were able to apply for the 2024 Grant Cycle II, which provided funding from both unrestricted and field of interest funds. The Community Foundation is looking forward to how these valuable organizations will utilize funding to further their missions and serve the community of Huntington County.

United with Love of Huntington County received $16,000 from unrestricted funds to support an electrical upgrade to their new property at 338 E. Washington St. Electrical updates will allow United with Love to operate their new store safely for staff, volunteers and the general public. The grant was generously sponsored by the following Community Funds: Donald & Lou Rayne Scheiber, Dr. Ron & Judy Frischman, Fred Bailey, Gina & Scott Canady, Jim & Linda Howell, John & Midge Decker, Robert & Vera Deal.

Friends of the Andrews-Dallas Township Public Library was awarded $2,000 from unrestricted funds to support the implementation of life skills-based programs including cooking, sewing, meal prep basics, home crafting, quilting and more. The grant was generously sponsored by the following Community Funds: Bippus State Bank, James & Nancy Breiner, James & Regina Ditzler, John & Midge Decker, Paul Family, Robert & Vera Deal.

The Salvation Army of Huntington County received $6,300 from unrestricted funds and $319 from the Huntington Jaycee’s Inc. Fund. The Salvation Army will use funding to purchase a new grill, allowing them to continue involvement in events, such as the Pioneer Festival and others, to raise funds for their Emergency Assistance Program. The grant was generously sponsored by the James & Nancy Breiner Community Fund.

New Life Ministries received $5,822 from unrestricted funds, $568 from the Gerald W. & G. Edward Yeoman Memorial Fund, $902 from the Roanoke Brethren Church Fund and $869 from the Huntington County Free Health Clinic Fund. New Life Ministries will use the funding to upgrade outdated bunk beds in the Men’s and Women’s Life Houses, allowing them to continue offering transitional housing for men and women in need. The grant was generously sponsored by the following Community Funds: Dr. Ron & Judy Frischman, Fred Bailey, Jim & Linda Howell, James & Regina Ditzler, Paul Family.

Blessings in a Backpack was awarded $8,000 from unrestricted funds and $1,000 from the Huntington County Right to Life Endowment Fund. After relocating their packing storeroom, Blessings in a Backpack will use funding to improve functionality of the space by adding a new commercial door, concrete driveway and ceiling fans. The grant was generously sponsored by the following Community Funds: Howell-Ehler-Wiley, Harold & Pauline Bailey Memorial, Gina & Scott Canady, John & Midge Decker, James & Regina Ditzler, Donald & Nancy McDaniel, James & Nancy Breiner, Bippus State Bank.

Place of Grace, Inc was awarded $1,450 from unrestricted funds to support costs of essential resources for two newly hired peer recovery coaches, including laptops, office supplies and curriculum materials. The grant was generously sponsored by the following Community Funds: Paul Family, Harold & Pauline Bailey Memorial, Jim & Linda Howell, Howell-Ehler-Wiley, Gina & Scott Canady, Fred Bailey, Dr. Ron & Judy Frischman, Donald & Nancy McDaniel, Bippus State Bank.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Fort Wayne received $5,000 from unrestricted funds to aid in covering the costs of building two new affordable homes, further helping address the housing crisis in Huntington County. The grant was generously sponsored by the Donald & Nancy McDaniel Community Fund and the Howell-Ehler-Wiley Community Fund.

Parkview Huntington Family YMCA was awarded $1,632 from the Wallace P. Smith Memorial Fund to support wellness center improvements. Funding will be used to improve safety and sanitation, increase accessibility and efficiency and decrease energy expenses.
