The Community Foundation of Huntington County is honored to announce the creation of the Mike & Debbie Stoffel Endowment Fund. The fund, created by Debbie Stoffel, exists to commemorate Mike and Debbie Stoffel’s passion for athletic programming and longstanding commitment to Huntington Catholic School.
“Huntington Catholic School and the Athletic Booster Club are blessed to be recipients of the Mike & Debbie Stoffel Endowment Fund,” noted Huntington Catholic School’s Assistant Principal and Athletic Director, Mr. Mike Hannan and Booster Club President, Mr. John Garrott. ”The Stoffel’s were an integral part of our school and athletic programs for years, and we are honored to carry on their legacy of providing athletic opportunities for our student athletes.”
Mike and Debbie were married for 47 years and were blessed with three children: a son, Travis M. Stoffel, and two daughters, Amy M. Stoffel and Bethany A. (Stoffel) Swagger. Each of them attended Huntington Catholic School, where their parents were heavily involved.
In 1970, Mike graduated from Huntington Catholic School and Debbie graduated from Huntington County Community School Corporation. Following high school, Mike earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from IPFW. Mike and Debbie owned and operated a T & C Disposal in Huntington for 27 years.
Debbie worked as a bank teller at First National Bank for 12 years and has served the Huntington community in various capacities. She was a board member at Huntington Catholic School and a Booster Club Treasurer at Huntington Catholic School. She was committed to her involvement in the Pioneer Festival for over 30 years and Right to Life for over 12 years. Debbie also served as president of Jaycees Wives and Psi Iota Xi Sorority, where sheis still an active member and has been for over 40 years.
Mike was a dedicated basketball coach at Huntington Catholic High School and the grade school level for over 25 years. He also served as an assistant girls’ basketball coach at Bishop Luers High School for 12 years.
Among his proud accomplishments, Mike helped leadthe Bishop Luers girls’ basketball team to achieve state champions in 2011 and state runner-up in 2012.
Mike passed away on August 21, 2018. During his lifetime Mike was known as a devout Catholic, an IU men’s basketball fan, a vintage car enthusiast and a loving husband and father.
The Mike and Debbie Stoffel Endowment Fund will serve to memorialize Mike’s passion for coaching and athletic programming, as well as honor both Mike and Debbie’s dedication to Huntington Catholic School.
“All of the Huntington Catholic athletic programs are self-funded through fund raising activities by our student athletes and their families, along with community support,” continued Mr. Mike Hannan and Mr. John Garrott. “This endowment gift will help the Booster Club continue to provide the best opportunities to our student athletes to compete in athletics with a focus on spiritual growth.”
Generations of Huntington Catholic School students, administration and athletic programs will benefit from the generosity of Mike and Debbie through this endowment fund.
