The Community Foundation is pleased to announce the creation of the Erik & Heather Larr Community Fund which will support local charitable organizations, projects and initiatives through the Foundation’s yearly grant cycles. Erik and Heather are proud to call Huntington home and have eagerly witnessed growth in Huntington County over the last several years, which influenced their desire to help the community continue in that positive direction.
With a vision of providing grants for the good of the community, Erik and Heather took advantage of Lilly Endowment Inc.’s GIFT VIII $2 for $1 match to create the fund.
“We decided to establish our community fund now because of the generous $2 for $1 match from Lilly GIFT VIII, which presented a unique opportunity to maximize our impact,” noted Heather Larr. “While we had planned to create an endowment fund in the future, this match allowed us to start supporting our community even earlier.”
Erik and Heather were high school sweethearts who bonded over their shared interests in music and band. They both continued their band involvement in college, marching together in Indiana University’s Marching Hundred. After college, the couple got married and their family began to grow with the addition of two children, Harrison and Violet. They enjoy spending time together camping, volunteering and rooting for the Indiana Hoosiers.
Erik is a committed volunteer with Friends of Ouabache State Park and regularly seeks grant funding for organizations that support environmental and animal welfare initiatives. Heather is a dedicated volunteer with the Community Foundation of Huntington County, Blessings in a Backpack, Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana Michiana and Lilly Scholars Network. Together, they share a passion for supporting initiatives that benefit food insecurity, education, performing arts, and environmental and animal welfare.
Heather is a former Lilly Endowment Inc. Community Scholar, and she believes that the Larr Family had a head start thanks to her scholarship, which inspires her family to pay it forward and help when they can.
“Heather has had a full-circle journey from being our 2003 Lilly Scholar to serving on our Board of Directors and now establishing a fund of her own,” stated Matt Ditzler, Executive Director. “Her and Erik’s dedication to investing in our community now and in the future is an example for all of us to aspire to.”
The Community Foundation is honored to uphold Erik and Heather’s longstanding commitment to serving our community and are eager to see how their fund will impact Huntington County for years to come.
