The Huntington County Community Foundation is pleased to announce a new $15,500 endowment established by the Dr. John E. Regan family to create and maintain an Eagle Scout Recognition Center in perpetuity. The purpose of the Center, to be maintained by the Anthony Wayne Area Council Boy Scouts of America (AWAC), is to promote interest in the Eagle Scout award and provide a source for recruiting volunteers and fundraising.

According to Dr. Regan, “parents and young people often overlook the fact that the Eagle Scout award is one of the few meaningful things that a young person can earn before the age of eighteen that can be put on a resume forever. We anticipate that this Center will make that more widely recognized plus the many other attributes and skills that accompany earning the Eagle Scout award.”

The Center shall maintain an accessible, searchable database by name, unit and county, that preserves the history of all Eagle Scouts in the AWAC service area. Biographical information about each scout including their Eagle project may be included.  The Center shall be accessible to scouts, scouters and the public at scout camp, the central office, the AWAC web site, and other venues.

The Center and endowment is sponsored by Dr. John E. Regan and his five sons who are all Eagle Scouts. A father and five sons all being Eagle Scouts is a National Eagle Scout Association record. They are:  John E. Regan, DDS, Eagle Scout award 1953, Post 6 Cambridge City, Indiana;  John S. Regan, MD, Eagle Scout award 1977, Troop 121 Huntington, Indiana;  Michael J. Regan, Eagle Scout award 1978, Troop 121 Huntington, Indiana;  David P. Regan, DDS, Eagle Scout award 1992, Troop 135 Huntington, Indiana;  Stephen D. Regan, DDS, Eagle Scout award 1993, Troop 135 Huntington, Indiana;  Stanton M. Regan, MD, Eagle Scout award 1995, Troop 135 Huntington, Indiana.
