Community Scholarship Opportunities
It is our privilege to offer dozens of scholarships for post secondary students through the Community Foundation. Scholarships are made possible by the generosity of donors who set the criteria for each award.
- Our Community Scholarship Process opens at the beginning of the calendar year. This process allows students to apply for several scholarships through one application. It is open to graduating high school seniors as well as others currently enrolled in post secondary education. Most of our scholarships are for residents of Huntington County, but there are a few exceptions.
- The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Process opens in the late summer and is open to graduating high school seniors from Huntington County.
- The Dede Rippetoe-Reed Scholarship opens in early fall and is available to Huntington North High School students interested in studying foreign language abroad. Students must be accepted to the Indiana University Honors Program in Foreign Languages for Indiana high school students, pursuing study in Spanish, French or German.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: You said you have several scholarships but I only see a couple on the dashboard. How do I see all the others?
A: The Community Foundation Scholarship application houses over 70 scholarships in one! Once you fill out the application, hit submit and complete any additional essays that follow. After your application is complete, the system will identify all scholarships you are eligible for.
Q: I submitted the application but now it’s telling me I need to fill out these essay questions?
A: If this shows up for you, it’s because you are eligible for a couple of scholarships that require an additional essay that must be submitted. Please take time to complete and submit any essays in order to be considered for those additional awards. Not all of the opportunities have essay responses, so if you don’t see this pop up, that’s okay!
Q: I am eligible for more scholarships than what is shown in my dashboard. Why?
A: Scholarships with additional essays must be completed first. Once you complete all additional essays, the Community Foundation will process your application and additional eligible opportunities will become visible.
Q: I’m a visual learner, are there any resources available to help me get started on the application?
A: Absolutely! Check out our Application Instructions page and view video instructions provided by our application platform.
Q: Can I submit the application before all of my recommendations are ready, or should I wait?
A: Feel free to submit with or without the recommendations completed, as these can come in after the application is submitted. However, it is still the applicant’s responsibility to remind those they have asked for a recommendation to get those turned in on time.
Q: When will I hear back about any awards?
A: Scholarship decisions vary according to the application cycle. Community Foundation Scholarship decisions will be communicated mid-May. Every decision will be communicated via email from the portal, so check your email regularly. We will walk you through the next steps once those final notifications have been sent.
Q: I’m not a graduating senior, but I am enrolled in post-secondary education. Am I eligible for any awards and should I apply through the regular scholarship application?
A: Yes, students enrolled in post-secondary education are invited to apply through our general application as there are opportunities available that you may be eligible for based on scholarship criteria.
